The Italian design duo Studio Formafantasma is based in Amsterdam, drawing inspiration from both cultures and the historical contexts of each to inform their product design. In believing their role to be a bridge between craft, industry, object and user, they are interested in forging links between their research-based practice and a wider design industry.
Established in 1921 by the heir to a long line of Italian potters and kiln workers, the “Maioliche artistiche Guido Bitossi” factory produces many of the most recognizable ceramics of the 20th century. The Bitossi brand has long embodied a type of production still linked to the tradition and classical styles of the past, inspired by their location a mere twelve miles from Florence, combined with research and a study on the ceramics products. The effect is modern, yet timeless ceramic objects and vessels that are an instant collectible and family heirloom.
