Shown here in a soft, dusty flamingo pink ripple sycamore features a signature metal inlay motif, its doors inlaid with aged brass in an optical pattern inspired by Kansas Yamamoto’s jumpsuit for Bowie’s 1974 Aladdin Sane tour (Yamamoto himself inspired by an Oskar Schlemmer costume for a Bauhaus ballet). Patinated hinges allow the glistening doors to completely fold back to reveal a pale blonde ripple sycamore interior, an ivory shagreen bar top and cream lambskin-lined drawers with hand made pulls. The top of the cabinet’s oil-filled rotary damper allows it to fall slowly closed. Adjustable height shelves; the shelf supports are traditionally made zigzag (sawtooth) supports. The cabinet sits on a polished brass base. The cabinet is finished, both exterior and interior, with a hand rubbed satin lacquer.
